"Why breastfeeding medicine is important"


Dr. Sarah Brennan graduated in 1998 from UCD and has since become a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2001 and Irish College of GPs in 2008. Sarah now works as a lecturer in NUI Galway, in Donegal Medical Academy and is a GP. She is mother to five boys.

“Laid-back Breastfeeding: What’s Happening in Ireland?“


Margaret McGuigan is a Registered Midwife, currently working on the Labour Ward in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. She has been a La Leche League Leader for the past 28 years, founding 2 local breastfeeding support groups, La Leche League Castleblayney and La Leche League Monaghan. She has worked in the Leader Accreditation Department of LLL Ireland for 20 years and held positions for LLL Europe, including working to establish LLL in countries without a La Leche League presence. Her passion for laid-back breastfeeding led her to conduct research on its use in Irish hospitals. The resulting publication, Laid-back breastfeeding: knowledge, attitudes and practices of midwives and student midwives in Ireland, can be found in the International Breastfeeding Journal at

She is the mother of 5 sons, has 3 grandchildren and she and her husband live in County Monaghan.
